    AVI to VCD/SVCD Conversion doesn't work well at all..,

    Hi, I have a problem regarding file size when I convert a divx encoded avi file, to a NTSC Film VCD.

    When I convert a film, it converts to over 2gb in file size.. sometimes up to/over 4gb! (original avi is about 700mb). When I watched the movie I noticed it played through to the very last frame, and from then on it showed that frame for about 3 hours, as the movie is encoded from 93mins (original avi length) into an mpg of about 4 hours (wtf?)

    I followed the tutorial from this website for converting an avi to a vcd, and also used 'clip frame' to keep the original aspect ratio. For some weird reason TMPGenc converted the avi to a massive file size, with no sound and with a much longer video length instead of the 93 minutes.

    Anyone know what I'm doing wrong here? I've tried using all the different templates (VCD, SVCD) but I always get massive file sizes etc

    Please help :s

    (I have Nero too, if anyone knows how you can use a 'clip frame' function to keep the original avi aspect ratio, I'd be grateful since nero is fine apart from the fact that it forces the film to play fullscreen when originally its in widescreen format.)

    After loading your .AVI into TMPGEnc and doing your setup (whether directly or using a template/"wizard"), click on the "Audio" tab. What audio format is indicated?

      Another VBR audio problem. TMPGEnc cannot reconise the VBR audio and thinks it is part of the video stream. When you load the avi file, the audio source from the avi file is not loaded, and at the end of the wizard it says the file size will be way over the 80 min mark.

      Read the other thread and follow the instructions on getting a non-vbr audio so TMPGEnc can decode it properly.

      Also, dont just clip frame to get your video with correct aspect ratio, play around with the "Source aspect ratio" and "Video arrange method" in the advance tab, with just clip frame you might lose a lot of video footage.

        setarip: I'm assuming by 'audio' tab u mean settings > audio.

        MPEG-1 Audio Layer II
        44100
        Stereo
        224
        <no boxes ticked>
        De-Emphesis Flag: None
        <box not ticked>

        StarRide: when I select the avi file to be decoded, it enters it in the audio selection aswel. I'll take a look at the link u posted now.

        Thanks

          1) Load the original DivX-compressed .AVI file into the most recent version of either VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod

          2) Set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copy"

          3) Select "Check for errors"

          4) Select "Mask bad frames"

          5) Save with a new filename
