    Dr. Divx Audio/ Video Problems....

    1. I used Dr. Divx to encode ASF...to AVI I get pretty good video but the audio is out of synch...audio starts 3 seconds after video and tends to go worth... Tried Nicky Guide but without much success. I'm guessing a setting in DR. Divx is messing every thing. The File is so messed up by the end of the file that even with virtuall dubb I was unable to fix it. Though I guess I virtual dubb can fix it but i just do not know how. Tha'ts why I choose to go with ASF TO MPEG TO AVI... But take a look at question 2. below.
How do I change the the Frame rate in DR. DIVX to be what I want ???
How do I change the and pick the INterleave to 1 frame instead of this 1x or that ms???
Eo is converting these video just fine but takes a long time and produce a big file the Dr Divx.

    2. I tried then to use TempG to encode the ASF to MPEG1 then to AVI using DR. DIvx. Well. The MPEG file is OK... The conversion to AVI by Dr. Divx is also OK and the audio is no longer lagging after the video...But it plays well on my computer using ATI... But when I play it on my ARCHOS multimedia player the audio and video synch at the beginning of the file then tends go out synch progressively....
I was able to FIX THIS BY USING VIRTUAL DUBB just saving the File as a new AVI with interleave set to 1 frame using one of Seratip answer to another poster.
IS THERE A WAY TO NOT GO TO THIS EXTRA STEP??? LIKE CAN I SET THE INTERLEAVE DIRECTELY TO 1 FRAME??? DR. Divx does not give a 1 frame option... it just give 1x wich I do not how it coresponds to frame???

Just for my learning what this step in Virtual Dubb really do to the file? I'm guessing a setting in Dr. Divx is proper.

I can encode using Virtuall Dubb from MPEG1 to divx AVI but it does somehow give me a very big file 1.4 gig for a 2 hours 30 video while the original ASF was only 500 MB and while the the conversion using DR. Divx is giving me about 500 MB also.

When I use Virtuall Dubb to fix problem 2 above using Seratip instruction to another poster, I finally get a file playing both on my computer and my portable multimedia ARCHOS AV140 with the a good file size 500 MB.

I'm trying to find out if there's way to by pass those two steps:

    1. ASF to MPEG using TempG
    2. MPEG TO AVI using Dr. Divx
    3. Fixing AVI with Virtuall DUbb.

    Thanks for your help...

What video compression and audio compression settings did you use in VirtualDub?

I have attached the Virtual Dub file info below. I do not use VDB directly but through a supposely simplified interface provided by ARCHOS wich invokes virtual Dub. They preset a lot of other settings for me. So I can't tell for sure the encoding settings. The only setting they let me chose is if Priority should be fps or resolution. I choose fps. Also you can change the codec settings: which I have set up as:
Variable Bit Rate Mode: -1 pass; Encoding bit rate: 1200
source interlace: progressive; max keyframe interval: 300
      What bother me is:
      1. The file size go up significantely from ASF to MPEG. IT stays the same size or a little up from MPEG to AVI with VDubb.
      2. ASF to MPEG conversion last about the same time as the Video
while MPEG to AVI takes double the time of the video.
      3. Vdub or at least the utility provided by archos do not allow batch encoding
With DrDivx any conversion is taking half the time of the video file and keps the size the same as ASF. And I can do batch encoding

Thanks for you help. Otherwise I will have to to do ASF to MPEG and MPEG to AVI using only DrDivx. only then I can use Vdubb to save a new avi with interleave = 1 frame.

Can you explain me how Virtuall Dubb is actually doing in fixing my avi which had the audio growing out sych only on my portable Archos Video Player? I think if I understand the key in your instructions I may be able to find out how I can force Dr.Divx to do this.

      Thanks

You've got my head spinning. Is the only thing you're trying to do is convert an .ASF file to a DivX-compressed .AVI?

If so, download and install SPECIFICALLY VirtualDub v.1.3C. This older version accepts .ASF files for input and conversion to .AVI (DivX-compressed or otherwise)...

That was the first thing I tried...ever and ever... But some how this Virtual Dubb 13c which used to support ASF do not work anymore. I guess new ASF FILES do not work. Few others had that problem too. You get an error while loading these ASF file encoded with WMV4. Avey quit maintaining that feature and ASF codec got changed. You do get the following error in v 1.3C:

ASF: Illegal Object Fragment flag 0a in packet at e77 packet size=b48, pp=13, send time: 00:00.

In new version: you get a Unsuported Message.

It may also be that New installation virtual dub were set up not even to allow old version to work with asf once someone install the newer version.

            Thanks for your help.

No. I can personally assure you that v.1.3C continues to be functional regardless of newer versions being installed on the same system...

              "Thanks for your help."

              My pleasure ;>}

Now that I (I think) fully understand what you're trying to accomplish, I'd suggest you try ASFTools...

                Sound problems with Dr. Divx

The way I solve the problem in Dr. Divx was to simply hit the modify settings button after loading the VOB file and then go to the preview pane. Press play and mark it in after all the credits at the beginning then the audio should sinc up fine.
