    Downloading Divx .... Permanently?

Wondering if it is at all possible to download a rented Divx movie and save it permanently to your hard drive. They say you must be online in order to view the downloaded movie as part of a security measure. I am wondering if you can just convert the dowloaded file using TMPGENC or something else to save the file in a different format so it doesn't have to played with the DIVX player and you can watch it at your discression. Any help or info would be great. Thanx.

That's not an appropriate question for these forums (You're asking how to copy commercial media that you don't own)...

If you are referring to the old (and dead) format DIVX, you are out of luck. Otherwise, I have probably missed the news that there are now DivX movies for commercial rent.

I had heard you could download movies that you "rent" in divx form. You could only view them with the divx player and only while online so that they know when your rental period is up (30 days or so) the file becomes inactive. I am wondering if I can convert the downloaded file to say .avi so I can watch it with other programs (Of course if this is possible I would delete it after 30 dyas as well )
