    Veeeery Slow encoding in XP

    Hi there.

Up until 2 weeks ago I was still using WinMe, but now, I've bought a new HD and I installed WinXP.

The problem is that I'm trying to encode a DivX from a DVD and it's way slower than it used to.

Ok, so it wasn't very fast in the first place, around 6fps, but I still use Divx 3.11 and Flask .594 and I put all the settings to get the max quality, but now its at 2,5fps!!!

Did anyone ever had this problem?

Is there some optimization for XP that I'm missing?

Should I try a newer version of Flask?

    Thanks!

"Is there some optimization for XP that I'm missing?" "Should I try a newer version of Flask?"

You can optimise things by ditching Flask completely. Use GordianKnot and/or DVX instead. They (literally) wipe the floor clean with Flask.

    Regards.

UncasMS: No, I installed the same versions from Nimo Codec Pack. I'll try your DVX guide to see if I can use it instead.

Enchanter: I've tried GordianKnot today but I can't fix the aspect ration nor rip the subtitles. Do you know how to do it?

ok, so now I've got another problem.

I've read your GordianKnot guide, folowed everything you say (I think), but I got an error during the encoding. it only did the first pass but then i thing it couldnt find the avi to do the rest.

Should I post the log file so you can see what's wrong?

"I got an error during the encoding"

What does the error message say?

              the error mesage is:

              avisynth open failure
              VobSub: Can't open "E:\video_ts\vts_01"
              (e:\video_ts\GatoBW.avs, line 66)

this appeared right after a "wrong version" error of some sort.

              The log says:
              20:27:36: *************************************
              20:27:36: EXCEPTION: I/O error 103
              20:27:36: EXCEPTION: Encoder Thread Terminated.
              20:27:36: *************************************

              I was using Divx 3.11

Post the contents of the file "GatoBW.avs". You can use Notepad to open it.

                    "avisynth open failure
                    VobSub: Can't open "E:\video_ts\vts_01" "

Ensure that you have installed Vobsub into your system and the required "VSFilter.dll" plug-in is in \Windows\System32 folder.

"this appeared right after a "wrong version" error of some sort."

Check too that the Avisynth plug-ins you are using is compatible with the Avisynth version installed in your system. For example, plug-ins meant for Avisynth 2.07 won't work with Avisynth 2.5, and vice versa.

                    "I was using Divx 3.11"

Try using the more updated DivX 5 or XviD codecs.

                    Cheers.

                      It worked!

Basically I uninstalled the whole thing and reinstalled it.

Took 7 hours, which i less than it used to and the quality is not bad.
I think it is really quite good for 1 CD. I never understood how you can find some movies that fit on one CD and still have very good quality.

                      Well, thanks a lot!
