Merging subtitles with avi

What's the easiest way to merge external subtitles (in .srt or whatever) with an avi?

When I attempted to create an ogm file, it said that the estimated final file size would be 60 gb, so then I tried outputting it to an avi instead, but the subtitles won't get included in the new avi. I simply open up the avi source in virtualdubmod 1.5.10.1, go to stream list and add the subtitle file as a stream. Then I press ok, set it to direct stream copy and go to save as, and save it as an avi. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Also, is there a way to output an mpg file directly from virtualdubmod, or do I have to use another converter for that? I'm searched the forum seeking answer for these questions, but didn't find any.

you MUST use direct stream in the video settings - did you do so?

sounds like you were creating an UNCOMPRESSED file

Ah you're right, I could export an ogm file of resonable size now, but the problem with the subtitles remained. Do you know of a way to force VDM to export ALL streams in 1 file? Thanks for helping out.

did you use OGM??

with that container you can easily use multiple audio/subtitlestreams
