virtualdub can't decode part of DivX avi

I flasked a DVD and now have an avi file. When I try to mux the audio with it (or just dump a direct stream of just video alone), it stops midway with an error about frame 50147. I read a few things on the forum and heard about vdub-mp3-freeze. So I got that and ran it on the avi file. It reported no errors. So I run virtualdub's bad frame checking and it finds 0 bad frames, 13 undecodeable. Unfortunately, it doesn't provide frame numbers. I try to run avidefreezer anyway (using keyframes around 50147), but it doesn't do anything.

Is this a common problem and how do you fix it?
