Sounds like a codec problem. Perhaps you could try reinstalling some of the codecs that you think are suspicious.

Do you have ffdshow installed on your pc?? if not then try that. There is a known incompatibility issue with WMP9, my DivX films started to shake all the time (yes i know, yours crashed) and when i installed ffdshow they played fine.

I think wmp9 is just a rubbish player, only good for the occasional streaming video as most stremaing videos are specially desgined for it (encoded in the wm codec) thus the good playback when streaming music video's form launch.com

However i recommed trying windows meida player classic. Try it for yourself and discover its vast array of benefits/features. You'll be suprised and never want to go back.

Hmmn, i have to disagree there, i think that WMP9 has 2 thing's going for it and they are a) great picture b) brilliant sound.

But its cluttered, uses up alot of cpu and they are better players such as windows media player classic. You have to try it before you can compare.

Uses a lot of CPU, are you kidding me? when playing a film the most CPU that ever gets used is 30%. And what do you mean by cluttered???

P.S i have tried windows media player classic. And the sounbd is'nt as good as WMP9 and on my machine the CPU is about the same.

You'll notice it most when you are running alot of tasks at the same time and your computers been on for 4/5 days. wmpc can aslo play ogm/mkv/realmedia/quicktime files which wmp9 cannot.
It doesn't really matter, its just a personal preferance.

btw, you can configure wmpc to use your desired video and audio filters. so the picture could equal wmp9 if you select the right codecs/filters. For example i could configure it to use Poweverdvd's video filter (Cyberlink video/sp decoder) for mpeg2 playback instead of it's default internal one.
