    To The point DivX

Heres my problem, i'm searching for someone w/ the same and i cannot find anything. I have the Divx 5 Pro codec. I have many others also such as xvid, cinepak etc.. I would like to encode shows that I record w/ my ATI AIW 9700 Pro with DivX. I have tried a bunch of differnt recording formats with no luck. If I use the DVD format one(mpeg-2) It looks great and is huge. I am able to encode a small file such as 1min from 70mb to 7. That works without a hitch. It is when i record an hour long show or movie that it craps out. Xvid will start to encode but soon crashes later. What the heck is the problem w/ this video I have put it into gspot but cannot find much help. Anyone have the same problem? I am using Xmpeg to do the encoding but have tried multiple programs to encode it also.

    Edit:
Here's some information from an old post w/ some File information on a james bond movie i recorded.

"If I use the DVD format one(mpeg-2) It looks great and is huge."

One alternative would be to use a DVD authoring program to convert mpeg 2 file(s) to a DVD file structure, and then use DVD Shrink to compress the overall size of the backup. Is it your intention to "Burn" these files, or store and watch them on your computer?

Its in my best interest to store them on my pc as a compressed file, but i would occasionally like to put some onto a DVD. If you can, please tell me how you would go about doing both, i would really appreciate it. I am at work right now and when i am home i'd be willing to send a short clip to someone to let them check out the file type, but short ones do decode.
      Thx

One thing you could try is use the more "Stable" Divx 3.11 codec.

You stated the following in your 1st post:

"If I use the DVD format one (mpeg-2) it looks great and is huge."

By this statement, you apparently have had success using mpeg 2. There are a number of programs that can convert mpeg 2 to Divx. A program called VirtualDubMod can do this quite easily.

Ok i can encode >1min video of mpeg-2 w/ virutualdubmod I get the error

            Cannot start video compression:

The source image format is not acceptable (error code -2)

I have tried diff. version of divx and xvid also.

Download and install AVIcodec v1.1.0.4 and then give it a try.

                  hmm

try using the DIVX 3.22b codec and capturing it - see if you get what you like

the thing after the hour thing is that the bitrate you set the codec at may not be good enough
