    Major Problems converting to MPEG-2

Hi all, Im trying to convert a xvid encoded avi file to mpeg2 dvd.
Ive tried various methods described on this and other forums to no avail.

The error Im getting from tmpeg is

Read error occurred at address 00402F40 of module 'TMPEGEnc.exe with 20656850
Now Ive installed the ffdshow codec's as they are suggested to work better then the xvid ones, Ive changed the priority of the direct show filter in tmpeg to 2 but as soon as it tries to encode the video it crashes with the above error.

I've using a wav file as the audio source not the audio within the file.

Any help/assistance would be greatly appreciated!

here is a screen grab of the avi files information.

Try installing BOTH an XviD codec and the FFDShow filter...

Does your XviD-compressed .AVI play properly from beginning to end?

      Hi thanks for your reply.

I did have the XviD Codec installed, it hasnt been removed, then I installed ffdshow.

I can watch the compressed avi's just fine on the pc, the problems only occur when I try the conversion process.

      Thanks!

        1) Load the .AVI file (XviD-compressed or otherwise) into the most recent version of either VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod

        2) Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copy"

        3) Select "Check for errors"

        4) Select "Mask bad frames"

        5) Save with a new filename

That didnt fix the problem, so I reverted to a slightly earlier version of tmpeg and the problem has now been fixed.
I just added the audio from an external file and voila a lovely mpeg2 file

            Cheers
