    Automatic 2 pass encoding

Does anyone know of an app that will do a two pass divx encode without usr intervention between the two passes? Currently I use Flask MPEG and have to change the codec settings between the two passes (from 2 pass, first pass to 2 pass, second pass) and I'm hoping there is a way to do this automatically so I can leave an encoding running all night and have it complete in the morning.

    Many Thanks.

Use VirtualDub. Set everything for first pass and go into "Save as AVI..." write a name for avi file and check "Add operation to job list and defer processing". This will put the processing in a job queue. Then do same for second pass.
To start the jobs use "Job control".

I've looked at both of these but they don't understand dvd's and I don't realy ant to mess around with a frame server (would that actually work for 2 passes?). Any other ideas?

        Thanks.

There are a number of tools that do this, including virtualdub and nandub, but I strongly urge you to read some guides on this.

Talk about the AVI file container, and the Divx/Xvid codecs that are most commonly found in AVI files

well, stick to flask then and you wont have 'to mess' with anything at all.

khp, thank you for your response, and be assured that I have read the appropriate guides on the pages you have linked to and skimmed through most of the others, please do not take my new registration with this board as an indication that I do not know what I am doing, the reason that I have not registered before is that I have found solutions to most of my problems in these guides or in this very forum, However I have not yet found anything which helps me with my current problem. If there is a guide I have missed feel free to point me in the right direction..

UncasMS, don't get me wrong, if necessary I will set up a frame server, but I always find it usefull to find out if there is a simpler (and possibly more reliable) way of doing things before going to the complex solution. Why do something the hard way if an app is out there which does it all automatically?

So that leaves me with my question, I need an app which will accept the VOB/IFO information from a dvd (extracted from dvd with vobdec) and perform a two pass encode with the divx 4 codec without user intervention between the two passes (and hopefully without the use of a frame server). Virtualdub and nandub are good suggestions but do not appear to understand the VOB/IFO format so use of a frame server would be required. Any other suggestions?

              Regards.

I didn't say my current solution was reliable though I havn't had to many problems with it... Maybe I'm just lucky.

Ok, if we are talking about automatic 2-pass encoding with flask, there are 2 possibilities, xmpeg or the multipass flask update for 594.

But I can't get myself to recommed either of them.

Using Xmpeg will be very easy for you if you are familiar with Flask. You can read this guide to help you :

I had the same problem, and now, with Xmpeg I get my divX every morning for breakfast

Moreover, you can use Bressenham filter instead of Bicubic, which is much faster for a comparable quality.

I agree with uncasms, go for nandub!

I am currently doing one for dvdx!
