    AVI to DVD

I have downloaded video AVI files and need to copy to DVD so I can watch it on my TV. The AVI file works great on the computer, but I would like to watch it on my TV. Any suggestions?

Encode it to mpeg2 and burn it to either svcd on cdr, or dvd on dvdr.
If you have no clue how to do this, I suggest you start reading some tutorials and guides.

I have 120+ avi videos. Some I have converted, but considering the time involved I'm now looking at a dvd player that plays divx and xvid (mpeg4). The Phillips dvp 642, at $65-$70, looks like a good candidate. Check here in the dvd player section for compatibility and user comments www.videohelp.com

Why does everyone seem to recommend the slowest, blockiest piece of encoding software there is?
Mainconcept is easier to use (free 30 day demo, as well as totally free h.264 encoder (if you don't mind the watermark) at www.mainconcept.com (you can remove the watermark with other software easily).
CCE produces better results, if you use something like dvd2svcd wrapped around it.
Canopus is probably better than all 3, if you got the money to purchase it.

I think CCE is far better but that's just me

bbmpeg is another one and it's free....no watermark etc but lets just say you gotta have a fast cpu

I like "WinAVI Video Converter". It's easy to use and usually takes about 40 minutes to convert to VOB files and then 20 minutes to burn the VOB files to DVD with "Nero". As long as the Avi's are good quality you usually get satisfactory results.

IMO 2 of the best all-in-one converters are Dvd2svcd and VSO divxtodvd. Mainconcept is my favorite for speed and quality
