I have 120+ avi videos. Some I have converted, but considering the time involved I'm now looking at a dvd player that plays divx and xvid (mpeg4). The Phillips dvp 642, at $65-$70, looks like a good candidate. Check here in the dvd player section for compatibility and user comments www.videohelp.comComment

Why does everyone seem to recommend the slowest, blockiest piece of encoding software there is?
Mainconcept is easier to use (free 30 day demo, as well as totally free h.264 encoder (if you don't mind the watermark) at www.mainconcept.com (you can remove the watermark with other software easily).
CCE produces better results, if you use something like dvd2svcd wrapped around it.
Canopus is probably better than all 3, if you got the money to purchase it.Comment

I like "WinAVI Video Converter". It's easy to use and usually takes about 40 minutes to convert to VOB files and then 20 minutes to burn the VOB files to DVD with "Nero". As long as the Avi's are good quality you usually get satisfactory results.Comment

IMO 2 of the best all-in-one converters are Dvd2svcd and VSO divxtodvd. Mainconcept is my favorite for speed and qualityComment

i have been converting avi's to dvd and i dont have any problems, but when i play my movie on my dvd player the picture is clear until there is motion and then it becomed fuzzy, then the picture stops and and is clears up. i have used santa dvd and a couple of other converters with the same results, is it a video card problem?Comment

see your other thread, dvd santa isn't a program to use if your looking for quality encoding..."One day men will look back and say I gave birth to the 20th Century". Jack The Ripper - 1888
