    Help w/ divx to dvd

I'm new here so I apoligize if someone has already explained this.

I have files that are avi that I use on my divx player 2.5. I'm trying to get them so that I can play them on my dvd player by burning them.

The only type of files my dvd player reads are dvd, dvd-r, cd, cd-r, cd-rw, or vcd. I've tried to convert avi to dvd but it keeps on making it so that its a mpeg file. Also, on one of the programs I used it said something about one of the files, that I was trying to convert, being a div3 file. I don't really know what this means.

Could someone please help me with this? I can't figure out how to do it and I'm guessing plenty of people do it.

I'm not sure which type of program to use either.

    Thanks so much!

After you convert your avi to a compliant dvd mpeg file you have to use a program like Tmpgenc Dvd Author to make the necessary dvd files, VOB, IFO, BUP.

..I don't know much about the whole dvd mpeg thing.

So do just use the program you said to use and it will be all done?

      I'm really lost..

convert your avi to a compliant dvd mpeg file (resolution and audio). I use Mainconcept for it's speed and quality. I then use Tmpgenc Dvd Author and load the converted mpeg file in it. Tmpgenc Dvd Author will tell you if the mpeg file isn't dvd compliant. I add my menu, chapters etc. Create your output. If running windows 2000 or win xp you can burn with Tmpgenc Dvd Author. I use Windvd to play my output (from my harddrive) before burning to make sure it is to my satisfaction. I then use Nero 6 to burn the files.

Download and install the DivX v.3.11alpha codec...

...may I add that DIV 3 mostly indicates that the MS mpeg4 V3
codec was used to encode the video (or the hacked compliant codec)
to make absolutly sure, the movie should be checked with
MovieID....of course it could also be your case, setarip, but less often.

Do any of you know what are the best programs, (that can be used under free trails or are free), to use to convert avi files to mpg files?

              I really need help \

The "Tmpeg Encoder" will do the job for you.
it has a fine wizzard that supports you in creating mpg files
for VCD /SVCD/DVD /MVCD or simple mpg program streams.

it can be found in the softwaresection of www.divx-digest.com

it has a trial period for Mpeg2 format and mpeg 1 is free.
