Help Needed: 1.5Gb AVI to DVD

Guys,

I need some help. I'm trying to convert a 1.5GB avi file to dvd format so I can watch it in my dvd player.

However I have tried many programs (the latest recommended to me was Ulead Movie factory 3) I've tried this program but when I tell it I want a DVD from my AVI file it tells me that th size needed for the DVD output is 12Gb.!!!!

How can I make the output dvd file smaller...??? so tht it can fit on a normal dvd..??

convert the avi to vcd/svcd or dvd with e.g. CCE (using dvd2svcd) or tmpeg

or use a mpeg-4 capable standalone player ^_~
