    Xvid 1.4Gb shrinking to 700Mb?

Usually I'd use Gordian Knot for this. But I'm having problems opening the file in it.

The file was originally a 1.4Gb Quicktime MOV file which I converted to Xvid using MPEG4 Direct Maker (I made a 1.4Gb Constant Bitrate AVI).

How can I get this file down to 700Mb if it wont open in Gordian Knot... Or better still how do I get the file to open in Gordian Knot?

you can perform your requested task with Virtual Dub Mod.
load you Xvid movie into virtual dub mod... get a divx calculator
with this calculator find the proper bitrates for your video so that
it fits on a 700 mb disk. in video you can use the option fast recompress since it will be a Xvid to Xvid recompression.
then in compression choose Xvid codec and configure it.
do the same in strams -->streamlist (righklick on the audiostream
and choose a compression and then configure it.)
save as avi under a new filename.

one thing in addition. next time you convert a *.mov to Xvid.
use the export features of quicktime pro.
in many quicktime movies a standart mpeg 1or 2 or mpeg4
movie is embedded. you can easily reextract that without the need of conversion. and then load that avi or mpeg into your favourite
    recompression tool.
