hi all,
like most people i download mpeg video content off the web (i am taking about legal content, by the way). i like to watch the partially downloaded content, so i run it through virtualdubmod instead of "avipreview" as virtualdubmod tends to squeeze every last frame from the video/audio. i usually encode with divx 5.2, 1-pass, on "fastest" mode with high bitrate so as to maintain quality.
what i am looking for is a codec that will do the job very fast, and gives reasonable quality at around 5000kbit/s. any suggestions?

... i should've remembered from a few months ago, when i installed a version of nero, and ahead claimed their mpeg-4 codec was the fastest in the world. thanks
