    AVISynth doubts

    Hi
Could anybody please explain how to use AVIsynth with MPEG2 files in order to open them in Virtualdub ?
I tried to follow the Nick´s guide but I got confusion since it refers
to VOB files, wich is not my case.

    Thanks in advance.

      create a project file with dvd2avi (*.d2v)
      open this file with gordianknot
make your resizing and resolution settings
      save the *.avs file
      open this avs in vd/nandub

Will we need to install the avisynth plug-in as well for that? Also, can we, in any way, edit the resulting avs file from GK using a word editor? I was thinking of using the Bob command for interlaced sources.

          -avisynth needs to be installed

          - the avs* file can be edited with any editor you like, BUT before saving the avs in GK, you can click EDIT, which will let you - guess what?

          - maybe a good de-interlacing filter might be a good choice in NANDUB's filter section?

When I open the mpeg2 file in DVD2AVI and play the preview
            there is NO sound.

The settings of mpeg2 audio are : 44100 Hz stereo, 224 kbps, layerII.

When playing with Windows Media or WinCoder it works well, although I ´ve noticed an audio delay.

With your help and patiently I´ll get there!

            thanks

mhs, i thought you wanted to open your file in VD/NANDUB not play it in dvd2avi?

              did i get you right?

if so, open the mpegfile and save the project file *d2v in order to go to the next tool (vfapi or gordianknot - i'd recommend the latter).

open the d2v in GK, go to resolution, and use auto-crop, smart crop ONLY. pal/ntsc + anamorphic/non-anamorphic should be set by gk itself. do however doublecheck if the aspect ratio in this preview window (make sure to have it set to RESIZED!!!) looks fine (no eggheads etc):

now go to the preview window and follow step 1-3 in order to save your avs file:

this avs file can now be used in vd/nandub

Thank you UncasMS for your help!

You are right, my goal is to encode it to mpeg4
I followed your nice guide but when I open the avs file in Vdub
                it has NO sound.

in nandub or vd you transcode your video material (vob files or the mpeg files you want to convert).

sound is handled separately with e.g. vob2audio.

finally video and audio file will be multiplexed using vd/nandub again.

So where is the audio data? When I saved the project file d2v, a file named "*.mpeg MPA T01 DELAY-14ms" was created. I don´t know what to do with it. I suppose it is necessary to join the audio data to the video, right?
Do you know where can I find a tutorial about joining audio and video?

By the way, excuse me for the basic questions, for a beginner everything is harder.

                    Thanks again
