Newbie need help to encode home video

    Hello!

I registered today, and is very new to xvid encoding.

First off: my hardware p4 3.0 ghz 400gig HD 1gig Ram

I have a 1 hour 45 min home made dv video to encode, now i have done it with dr. divx but im not satisfied with the result, so i want to try xvid.

I guess what im looking for is the ultimate guide to making dv files into great looking xvid files, including what software/codec/settings to use.

Would be great if a xvid specialist could help me out, i have been searching for days now, and posted several places, i just can't seem to get a grip on this xvid stuff. Thank you very much kind helping soul

    Good evening,

To start, start with familiarizing you with the Xvid codec.
This document you will be very useful:

However, I think that there is better than Dr Divx.
If I understood well you want to make the DV to Xvid.
Honestech mpeg encoder 6.0 / 7.0 seem a good beginning. you will see that it is slow but efficient enough.
For more of info don't hesitate.

    Bye
