Xvid to VCD/SVCD and AC3 problems

Hello, first I am aware that this question is asked often but i've read thru 5 different tutorials browsed thru many forums but evrytime I try to fix my problem, it never seems to work.

I'm trying to convert a Xvid to either VCD or SVCD, the conversion works ok altho im having problem with the sound. I can convert the sound and video alright but the sound doesnt seem to come out as 5.1 or DD (well its not coming out the same as the original ac3 file when i preview it on my comp before burning).

Here is what i've been trying so far. Most of the tutorials told me to go via TMPGEnc and one tut made me try MainConcept MPEG encoder.

    For TMPGEnc:

I first used VirtualDub to get the audio file out of the .avi . Works fine, it outputed a .wav file that sure does seems to come out 5.1 (well my rear speakers works and the sound seems to be in 5.1. Oh please note that im really no good with all the terms used in audio stuff hehe).

Once that is done, I used TMPGEnc to encode the .avi and the .wav to .mpg for the vcd or svcd.

After letting it encode for a minute, I abort and preview the file. Video ok, sound comes out only from my front speakers and I seem to have lost the rest of it. Whats wrong? Been searching like crazy, cant find answers!

Another thing I was told to try with another tutorial, was to save directly in .ac3 with virtualdub again. This time by going in the streams menu and by listing the stream, I get the audio file listed there. "AVI Audio Stream 1 (Tag 0x2000, ATSC/A-52 (Dolby AC3))". Then using "demux" button and save directly in a AC3 File. When opening the file once the extraction was done, I could hear it all nice with 5.1 sound like the original.

From there I used BeSplit to fix the AC3 file so TMPGEnc could read it (Note that I had to install the codec AC3ACM if I wanted TMPGEnc to recognize the file. Wich most tutorials talked about.) Once the file was fixed, I then used TMPGEnc and tryed to convert again. After 1 minute I abort and test the result. Same thing as the first test. Only coming out of my front speakers hmm. Whats wrong?

    MainConcept Encoder:

Used my already converted AC3 file and .wav to test with exact same results as with TMPGEnc.

Ok, I really dont know much about audio and all that stuff, so sorry for my newbiness but I did all I could to fix this with no results.

    How to fix the sound?

Any help would be really appreciated!!!

"the sound doesnt seem to come out as 5.1 or DD (well its not coming out the same as the original ac3 file)"

Neither SVCD nor VCD format standards support those audio formats...

damn lol, i knew i was a newbie a this stuff. Ok so evrything works as it should from what i understand.

I suppose any kind of DD or 5.1 or full surround effects can only be acheived on DVD burning????

Also, why does it not support these formats? is it because of the lack of space available on a cd? or something else?

      Thx alot for the reply!!
