    Joining xvid clips

I tried joing xvid clips using virtualdubmod and found that the file size increased byabsurd levels(400% +). Am I doing something wrong?
Selected "direct stream copy" from the settings per various giudes
    i.e Nicky's etc.
    Thanks

    "Selected 'direct stream copy'"

I'm guessing that you DIDN'T select that for BOTH "Video" and "Audio"...

Yes sir, I did for both audio/video, though for the first clip only and as per the guide.
Should I try a different version if vdub? Bcoz, the screen shot shown in the guides are different from the version I use(ver 1.5.10.1 build 2366/release). The diffrence is that in the guide the screenshot shows"save avi" while there is the option of"save as"

p.s. should read while "in mine there is the....." thnks.

Most likely you forgot to "Compress" the clip upon saving to a new file (e.g., go to "Video" > "Compression" and select a compression codec of your choice).

Joining two .AVIs (XviD-compressed or otherwise) can be accomplished in VirtualDub (or any of its variants) by simply:

          1) Loading the first file and then, from the "File" dropdown menu selecting "Append .AVI segment" and loading the second file.

          2) Set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copy"

          3) Save with a new filename

            Thanks for the response.
A 24 mb original file size when joined with the above method, is a 64mb joined file size.
To compress it, does one have to do 1pass/2pass bit?(ie. configure after selecting the codec). Would appreciate some details on this.

By doing as "setarip" stated, select direct stream copy for both video and audio their will be no uncompressing or recompressing. Virtual dub will only append the two files together as one.
