    demuxing VBR audio... ?

im kinda a newb with this stuff, but...

im looking fora program that can properly handle VBR audio (ac3 vbr specificaly) to demux it from a Xvid.avi

    Vdubmod doesnt properly handel VRB.
Nandub does, but it doesnt have a demux option.

i used Vdubmod once to shorten the length(only cutting off the end of a file[direct stream copy]) of a divx.avi that used VBR mp3. and the audio synch was good, but i could tell it was off by some amount of ms(more obviouse in some places then others). using Nandub fixed this prob, but it deosnt have a Demux option.
    -----------------------------------------
im shur Nandub will prolly beable to remux the VBR ac3 file, but i need some advice to find the best prog to demux it first.(though i dont know of any besides Vdub)

and please also mention if u know of a better prog for muxing VBR as well.

(and since im sorta a newb, also please inform me if Demuxing is different from editing a VBR in Direct Steam copy mode, example- A program wont have any problem Demuxing cause it doesnt involve anything indepth?, but it will encouter problems editing(cuting/shortening) the VRB audio[direct steam copy]???)

      1) Load the original video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

      2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

      3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

            ok, jolancer<- *Slaps himself*

just so u dont think ima total moron, this is what happend...

i have this list of .avi episodes, and only 1 that i loaded into Vdubmod gave me a VBR warning, and all of the Episodes use .ac3, however this one had another audio stream in it with .mp3 VBR, witch i didnt even bother to check since it didnt apply to any of the others.

so since i no longer have a problem(im not shur if VBR ac3 exists[cause u know newb]) but i would still like to know of any program recomendations for my original ?... it would be use full to know. especially if i had to demux VBR .mp3(i dont right know, but i would still like to know how for future reference) thx.

              Converting .AVIs with VBR-MP3 Audio

Simply use NanDub or VirtualDubMOD (Different than standard VirtualDub), to save the audio stream as an Uncompressed PCM (WAV) file as follows:
              1) Load your original .AVI into NanDub

2)Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copy"

              3) Set "Audio" to "Full Processing Mode" (NanDub only -For VirtualDubMOD>"Streams>"Stream list">>rightclick on the listed audiostream and then select "Full Processing Mode")
From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Compression" and choose "No compression(PCM)" (NanDub only - For VirtualDubMOD>"Streams>"Stream list">>rightclick on the listed audiostream and then select "Compression" and choose "No compression(PCM)")

              4) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save WAV" (In VirtualDubMOD, "Save WAV" is located under the "Streams" drodpown menu) (Enter a new filename with a ".WAV" extender).Click on "OK"

              5) Then save the .AVI as a silent .AVI (NanDub - set "Audio" to "No audio" after you've saved the WAV file. - For VirtualDubMOD>"Streams>"Stream list">>click on the listed audiostream and then select "Disable").

Then close NanDub and restart it
Set "Audio" to "No audio" (Not necessary under VirtualDubMOD)
              Load your silent .AVI
Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copy"
Under "Audio" click on "WAV Audio" and load your .WAV (In VirtualDubMOD, Streams>>Add)
Set "Audio" to "Full Processing Mode" (In VirtualDubMOD, Streams>>Rightclick on the listed audiostream, click on "Direct Stream Copy")
From the "Audio" (In VirtualDubMOD, "Streams") dropdown menu, select "Compression" (In VirtualDubMOD, rightclick on the listed audiostream, click on "Compression") and choose the appropriate .MP3 settings. Click on "OK"
From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" (In VirtualDubMOD, "Save as") and save your file with a new filename.

to setarip - thx for the info, but that is not what im trying to do.

i was wondering how to Demux VBR audio(not convert it). the only prog i know of that can do it is Vdubmod, but Vdubmod doesnt properly handle VBR mp3s, so i was curiouse witch prog would be best to use for Demuxing VBR.(also note- i dont have a clue if Vdub is the only prog that allows u to do this or not?)

Exactly what are you ultimately trying to accomplish?

demux VBR audio, so it stays in its original form, so it can be remuxed with a different version of the video portion.

i havnt researched about other formats such as... ogm and mkv prolly have tools for easily doing this, since those formats are more compatible with VBR. but im specificaly talking about a few .avi files iv run across with VBR mp3 in them.
