How do you get a codec to work ??? Is there supposed to be one in ur player or something ? I check my media players options an theres no video dsp ... is that where my codec is supposed to be or what? How do you get codecs to work if you cant understand what im talkin bout ... Thanx later.
Load the media file into a programme called GSpot (supports most but not all media file types) This will tell you what video & audio compression/ codec the file is encoded with. Then, you can install the individual codecs as necessary.
If, by media player, you are referring to a stand alone player; dunno -as I use an HTPC for all my media needs: it's the best option for an all-in-one unit.

also it has to be said that mp3 is also part of mpeg-2 (aka mpeg-2 layer3), but i dont know a mpeg-2 layer3 encoder (mpeg-2 added things like multichannel to mp3)

Would explain why Fraunhofer lists MP3 under "MPEG-2 Technology" !!!
