converting mpeg2to avi

hi there, has anyone tryied to convert mpeg2 files to avi, if so what tools are they using, thanks in advance for any help.

Use "VirtualDubMod" to convert mpeg-2 to AVI (DivX OR XviD).

There are a multitude of alternative programs available for this purpose (such as FlaskMPEG, XMPEG, MPEGMediator, etc.), as well as some wonderful tutorials at:

ok..using virtualdub to mpeg progie.....which video codec should i be using to compress to avi....i tried using xvid mpeg 4 but i got an error stating no stats file found, the operation not supported error code 1. the other codec i tried divx 5.21 made the file to large......can anyone suggest something to try..thanks in advance...
