    avi to mpeg2 problem

    I want to convert an avi to mpeg2 so i can then use TMPGEnc DVD Author to convert to vob files so i can then burn to a dvd.The problem is that i have tried several encoders without much luck all only gave me audio when converted,no picture,the only one i had audio/video was using MainConcept MPEG Encoder,but the mpeg2 that i ended up with after encoding had the audio about 5 seconds ahead of the video.Please how can i convert a avi file to mpeg2 so that i can burn to dvd without any problems,i am not experienced much with this so please an easy to understand answer ...thanks .

    Use TMPGEnc (a different program than TMPGEnc DVD Author) to convert the .avi file to a compatible .mpeg file. Then after it is converted, then use TMPGEnc DVD Author. You can download TMPGEnc via the turquoise link at the bottom of my post.

      I tried TMPGEnc, the version you posted and also TMPGEnc 3 express,but both of them wouldnt allow me to load the avi file into TMPGEnc,i either got a message saying "TMPGEnc doesnt recognize the avi file" or with express it says"audio file found but video file cant be found",but the avi file is a proper file as MainConcept MPEG Encoder recognizes it,so i cant use TMPGEnc to encode,thanks anyway,any other suggestions???

        Load your AVI into VirtualDubMod and post here your 'file information' screenshot

              "the mpeg2 that i ended up with after encoding had the audio about 5 seconds ahead of the video"

              You can resynch the MPEG2 file as follows:

              1) Load it into TMPGEnc

              2) Set mode to "MPEG-2 Program (VBR)"

              3) From under the "Advanced" tab, put a checkmark next to and then double click on "Source Range"

              4) Enter an appropriate positive or negative amount of milleseconds (thousandths of a second) next to "Audio gap correct"

              5) Save with a new filename

              Let us know of your success ;>}
