When I play downloaded AVI files there is only audio, no video. I downloaded the Bgpop Codec Pack, but do not know where to go from here.

well, perhaps he downloaded a xxx movie from a site he paid for?!
additionally data out of emule/kazza is not illegal ever, could be a public video (like publishing a snowboard-video to become famous
pkgman, use GSpot and check which codecs the file uses, then install the ones you dont have.Comment
