    Another AVI question

I have an avi file which I want to open in Virtual Dub (I Want to join a few files into one bigger file) but when I try to open video file in Virtual Dub I get this answer:
Couldn't locate decompressor for format "MP42"
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs such as those used by Windows Media Player are not suitable.

Anyone who can tell med what to do?

I am new to this so please bear with me.

I also have another question regarding codecs. I have a few avi files which are somewhat different from most others. When I play them in Windows Media Player it always start with saying something like "sending request for codec". Then the movie start and eveything is fine, but a few have no sound. This only happens with files that give this above message.
    Ideas here?

    Thanks for your help.

You need to install the M$ MP4v2 codec, you should be able to find that in one of the codec packs

You need to figure out which audio codec was used in these files and install that.
Open the file in virtualdub and select File->Properties.

Talk about the AVI file container, and the Divx/Xvid codecs that are most commonly found in AVI files

*edit* OK you edited your post while I searched for the answer. *edit*
