Help, I am pulling my hair out

I have several movies downloaded. I want to convert to vcd. I have tried virtualdub, Tmpgenc, roxio video wave which doesnt work for me. Its all to do will the lip sync being out.

file info for one film i am trying to do.

    This is the file details:-

    Video
    Audio-Video Interleaved AVI
    Horizontal size 640 pixels
    Vertical 272
    Compression Divx MPEG4 Low Motion
    duration 57 mins
color depth 24 bits per pixel
    number of frames 0
    video frame 1.#nf frames/sec
    data rate 205 kb/sec

    Audio
    audio format PCM
    sample rate 48khz
    bits per sample 0
    number of channals 2

I open AVI file in virualdub and pop up box says Virtualdub has detected an
improper audio encoding in the source avi file. This may introduce up to 73
ms of skew from the video stream. decompress the entire audio stream to an
uncompressed Wav file and recopress with a constant bitrate encoder.
    (Bitrate 192.0 # 0.6 kbps

some people tell me to use the above proggies, others say about multiplexing. If someone can give me detailed instructions I would be real greatful. I have around 10 films to do all with this VBR. I know I need it at a constant bitrate for it to work but am not sure on how to go around it. It has taken weeks for me to download these films. It would be a shame to waste them.

Could someone point me in the right direction please.

    Thanks for your help

    "Audio
    audio format PCM
    sample rate 48khz
    bits per sample 0
    number of channals 2"

"I have around 10 films to do all with this VBR."

These two pieces of "information" are in direct contradiction of each other. If the audio format is PCM it can't be variable bit rate (MP3).

If the audio WAS in PCM format, VirtualDub would not give you the message you've indicated...

Have you tried sending the file straight to Nero for VCD conversion?

        Ok. Thanks for replies.

(I just wanted to let you know That I have converted quite a few movies already but am struggling with these with the variablr bit rate.

Nero won't encode as it pops up a box with ....
You are using a Beta version of the encoder. The MPEG encoding/converting is not available. not sure what to do about that one...

This is what virtual dub says when I open the avi.
        Virtualdub audio stream detected.
virtualdub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source avi file and will rewrite the audio header with standard cbr values during processing for better compatibility. This may introduce up to 73ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unnaceptable, decompress the *entire* audio stream to an uncompressed Wav file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder. (Bitrate: 192 - 0.06 kbps)

The other avi files come up with the same message but with various Skew numbers and bitrate settings.

When I try to convert the avi to Mpeg, the lip sync is way out. I cannot work out how to make them come into line.

Ok. If I right click on file and do properties. This is what this particular file says....

        Video....
        file format Audio-Video Interleaved (AVI)
        Horizontal size 640 pixels
        Vertical 272 Pixels
        Compression Divx Mpeg-4 Low-Motion
        Duration 57 mins 29.9917 sec
color depth 24 bits per pixel
        number of frames 0
        video frame rate 1.#INF frames/sec
        data rate 205kb/sec

        Audio.......
        File Format audio/video interleaved avi
        Audio Format PCM
        sample rate 48 khz
        Bits per sample 0
        Nuber of channals 2

Does this make sence to any of you??

        Thanks again for your help

Instead of rightclicking on the file, load it into VIrtualDub. From under the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information".

          Post all of that information.

Yes, now it's certain that the file for which you've listed the information does contain a VBR-MP3 audio stream. Simply use VirtualDub to save the audio stream as an Uncompressed PCM (WAV) file. Then save the .AVI as a silent .AVI (set "Audio" to "No audio" after you've saved the WAV file).

Then close VirtualDub and restart it
              Set "Audio" to "No audio"
              Load your silent .AVI
Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying"
Under "Audio" click on "WAV Audio" and load your .WAV
From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" and save your file with a new filename

help I'm pulling my hair out

                Ok.
                saved the wave.
tried saving the silent avi but error box popped up
videosourceAVI [ICDecompress] error unspessified error (-100)
the projected file size is 41198.83mb. This is far to large.
Must have done something wrong in the silent video part. Does it have to be direct stream or full processing and am I right in saving save as avi? Might be easier just to tell me exactly what to do. a blow by blow account of which settings to use for all of it.

Once I have sussed I will be fine.
you a kind hearted and patient person. Thanks.

                your laugh at this one.
Dragged another of the files in Nero and it re encoded the file for vcd, burned to cd. Went to play it and it was an Australian film. we had to stand on our heads to watch it. evething was upside down. lol

Hope I am not being to much a pain in the neck for you.

Sorry, I omitted saying: Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying"

and then save the .AVI as a silent .AVI (set "Audio" to "No audio" after you've saved the WAV file).

You said that u r trying to convert the DIVX files to VCD.

Why not use TMPGENC? What problems are you having with it?

there is no check box for saving silent avi so I am using the save avi butoon. The above message then appears.

Regarding the other poster.... I have tried tmpgenc. If you read all the posts you will see the problem I am having.

                      Any suggestions????//

                        Hi there

                        41GB?????

OK, erm, are you sure you selected the low motion/fast motion codec? It seems that you havent (to me anyway) but I don't know what the error message is relating to in vd.

Let me get this straight, r u trying to create VCD?????

The way I see it here is that u r having probs with virtualdub with the skew thing, and then setarip helped u with some stuff.

Now, u have nearly solved it.

download the DIVX 3.11alpha codec (www.divx-digest.com/software) and install it.

Then when u r trying to save the avi, goto video > full processing mode then go back to video > compression, and choose the Low motion DIVX codec.

Get a bitrate calc (www.divx-digest.com/software) to calculate the bitrate for the vid. Use this bitrate in the Low motion settings. Then after that, set the audio to MP3 and then file > Save as (avi?)

                            And save it.

Then you can use TMPGENC (or Nero) to convert to VCD. TMPGENC does it faster and better, just load the avi file and then load the vcd template. Then use nero to burn this.

This is the way I see it, sorry if I am wrong.

                            TEchno

Thanks. will download the codecs and try from there.

Yes I am trying to do 8 - 10 films I have all with the skew prob.
have converted many vcd's with none of these probs already. Its just these with the skew prob thats holding me back. Once I have sussed it I should be fine.
Give me a day or two and I will get back to you. Thanks so much for your patience.
