missing mpeg2 codec

HI,

I tried out to convert a mpeg file with new divx 6 converter. I add the file to the list and after pressing the convert button I get the following error message.

"divx converter is unable to convert the file because of missing mpeg2 codec"

What do I have to do.

Please help me out, it is urgent.

install a mpeg-2 codec on your system. do a google search there are many. one i have is "stinky's mpeg-2 codec"

Wish it´s that easy. Had installed the codec before and reinstalled it. Also reinstalled the divx converter. No result.

There is still the same error message.

What now?

No thats not working, too.
I dont know why but to me it really looks wierd. Because the codec has to be there otherwise I couldnt play the file.

On the other hand, as soon as I try to put it in the list it gives me this stupid error message!

you have some problems on that pc.....you want to create a divx-compressed avi? i'd try virtualdubmod.

I have recorded an mpeg stream via TV card and now I want to create a divx compressed avi cuz its much smaller and therefore to transfer.

this is what i do, i use virtualdubmod and virtualdub.

1)under video i select full processing mode, compression, divx 5.2.1.

2)under "streams", i "save wav", then i disable original stream and load the wav i just made.

3) under "file", "save as" save with a new file name.

after this i usually load this new file into regular virtualdub and use "direct stream copy" on video, and compress audio to something like lame mp3.

i'm sure others may have alternative suggestions, this always works nice for me--and is rather fast too there are plenty of 1click software out there that can do this, but i like the features of virtualdub.
