dvd -> xvid with gknot troubles

my main issue is that i somehow got xvid that had same lighting than the source...now i always get too light and high contrast output also with divx...

    EDIT: dead links removed

i just tested different field settings and and the first one was that in the captures...after i tried others i couldn't get that good version anymore...perhaps i did something differently that i don't remember...

also do i need to do anything else to remove interlacing than the field settings...the source is ntsc interlaced (0.00% FILM)

first of all, update gordian knot. we're up to 0.35.x

not sure which setting you may have changed there, they seem fine...

first up, follow the dvd-->xvid with gordian knot guide at http://www.divx-digest.com

if still the same results, it may be that a different codec is playing back your video than before, and has different brightness/contrast,etc settings. try this:

download & install the latest (celtic druid version) "ffdshow" at http://www.free-codecs.com . once installed, get to the ffdshow 'video decoder configuration' from the start menu. in the left column, tick 'picture properties'. (you may also want to tick the 'post-processing box) play an xvid/divx video, and adjust the brightness/contrast/saturation until it looks good

you didn't show it in your screenshots, but it is likely you have not set up xvid correctly. as i mentioned in my previous post, follow this guide for setting up gordian knot: http://www.divx-digest.com/articles/...rdianknot.html

and this guide for setting up xvid: http://www.divx-digest.com/articles/xvid_setup.html

i now added the target size to xvid second pass options with the calculator...the doom9 guide didn't tell to do that except when i read the advanced xvid configuration guide...

i also added lower quality to start and end parts also added every scene to start with a keyframe so i can cut the scenes properly i think...

              hopefully that will do...

              edit:
also was wondering why this guide said that the compressibility should be 60-80% but other guides said 40-60%

the guide you have in your previous post is outdated. don't use it, it doesn't even mention lanczos resize

                  how did the encoding go?

the coding went fine this time...but i decided to change the audio to cbr and i tried to use AVIMUX GUI to add it to the video...and now i can't open it in avicodec or graphedit and virtualdub detects vbr so i don't know how to setup it correctly...

use virtualdubmod to add the audio to the video

if i am allowed to make a sougestion to your problem. why don´t you use the software DVDx to convert a dvd ito an xvid ancoded avi file it works fine. in the web there is a discription where you an get the full power of the program. i used it my self once in a while.

                        greatz

yeah, using a software is a wiser choice
