    No sound on converted file

I converted Life Aquatic from avi to mpeg format using TMPGenc. There was sound in the original avi but no sound on the converted mpeg. I tried installing ffdshow but it still didn't work. Mabeye Columbo or whoever else can "crack" this case...

edit: I also forgot to mention that DirectShow Multimedia File Reader is set to 3 in TMPGenc.

post the file info from virtualdubmod or gspot please (the avi)

    also from afterdawn.com:
"No Audio on Output File After Using TMPGEnc
This is usually caused by the compression on the audio of the source file. If it is an AVI file it is very common. With an AVI file the easiest things to do here are set DirectShow Multimedia File Reader's priority to 2 or even better demcompress the audio!

To change the priority of DirectShow, this is dont simply by clicking option - environmental setting. Click the VFAPI plug-in tab. You will see DirectShow in the list usually with a priority of -1. Right click on the NAME (not the priority) and click higher priority until the priority is 2 and it is at the top of the list. To decompress the audio for better results, do the following with VirtualDUB...

    1. Click Video - Direct Stream Copy.
    2. Click Audio - Full Processing Mode.
    3. Click Audio - Compression. Select and click ok!
    4. Click File - Save AVI and try it with TMPGEnc. "

if the above won't work...i have my own way

when I try to open the converted file I get this error..

Also, I can open the converted file with WMP(no sound) but not DivX player or media player classic....Exactly what codecs should I have (audio or video)

did you try to convert the audio to a wav file and use this as the audio source in tmpgenc?

Yea I used the wav file I created with virtualdub and opened it as the audio source in tmpgenc. One thing though, with ffdshow installed, all my avi's wouldn't run smoothly, they would stutter. Once I uninstalled it, they were back to normal..

ok first, play the wav file back on the pc, make SURE it works. does it?

                      if yes,

                      get rid of fddshow.

download and install "xvid 1.0.3 keopi's latest build" (google it, easy to find).

read here, did you follow the procedures listed here for installing the ac3 acm decompressor?
Download AC-3 ACM Codec (formerly AC-3 ACM Decompressor) 2.2 : AC3 ACM Decompressor is a Dolby Digital AC-3 decoding for Windows ACM

encode again with xvid installed and using the wav file as audio source. (make sure directshow file reader still raised in environmental settings too).

that's good news, so was it this that you forgot to do the following, the first time?

                          "How to install/uninstall AC-3 ACM Decompressor :

If you've never installed the decompressor before, simply right-click on the "AC3ACM.inf" file, and choose "Install" from the popup menu. "
