    cutting/joining mpeg files..whats best

hi,ive been using tmpg to join 2 large mpegs so then i can split them into 3 parts to put on a cd..here's my problem when i join them together with tmpg..i then goto play the file back but where ive joined them the sound is way out of sync..any ideas why this is and is there any other programs to cut and join mpegs..virtualdub is brilliant 4 cuttin and joinin avi's together but doesnt support mpeg files

any one put me in the right direction..

      Editing Files

For this, I use TMPGEnc. ONce open. choose TMPGEnc Tools for the menu. Then you can cut, split, merge, or practically any type of editing on the mpeg file. Its really really easy.
Hope it all works out for you...

Software recommendations for merging AVI files?

I am very new to working with DVD's and have two questions:

        1. I have 3 avi files for a video that I would like to join together and then burn to a standard DVD for playback in a home DVD player. What is the easiest way and software(s) to do this?

        2. I have a music video on my HD with the following files:

        VIDEO_TS.BUP
        VIDEO_TS.IFO
        VTS_01_0.BUP
        VTS_01_0.IFO
        VTS_01_1.VOB
        VTS_01_2.VOB
        VTS_01_3.VOB
        VTS_01_4.VOB
        VTS_01_5.VOB

        a) I would like to possibly add chapters that begin where the songs begin and with the proper song titles,
        b) then burn the project to a DVD for playback in a home DVD player.

        Thanks in advance!

          1. virtualdub you can try to join avi's, do you wish to convert to dvd format or are you using a divx player?

          2. I suggest TMPGEnc dvd author. 30 day full trial. it can do all that.

            Thanks for the quick reply.
            1) I'd want to convert to dvd format as I am clueless as to how new is divx and do all players recognize it? I'm asking because I don't know if that would be a better idea. I assume not all players can read divx.

            2) Can I delete TMGEnc after the 30 days, clear out the registry, then re-do the 30 days? I've noticed TMGnc claims you must have internet access as they randomly checkup on their users. I work on a laptop and sometimes don't have web access.

              1. yes not all players read it, it usually says on the outsidde of it, on the box or in the manual. it's certainly the easiest.

              2. never tried any of that, if you like it you'll want to buy it after 30 days.

Just tried VirtualDub. It cannot read any of the 3 AVI files. Got message:

"Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'DX50'. VirtualDub requires Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video."

Where do I find this? Does anyone know of other software that can join AVI files into one file?

                Thanks.

you likely need a decompressor. we need to find out what type of avi's.

                  exactly what does vdub say?

OK, Thanks to both of You!

I tried the DivX link @ Download.com before the link for Xvid was posted, installed it, and now VirtualDub CAN read the files, so I will have to see.

Yes, the Xvid download is WAY less overhead! Should I delete the DivX and just go with the open source Xvid?
