Converting Multiple Music VOBs to XVid

Okie guys, I have searched all over the web and am getting very
frustrated at this point.

What I am doing is ripping chapters/editing out from Music Video DVD's
with DVD Shrink. In most cases the chapters are set in stone start to
finish, however there have been instances where I must set a start and
finish point and then pull the content off the dvd to a .vob file.

Here is my problem. When I try to compress this in TMPGENC I either get
no audio, or an error saying something is wrong with the audio stream
or if it does compress no audio.


I have tried WINAVI 7.1 and it produces low quality Xvid or Divx files,
with sound. I have yet to find a way for it to use the settings I
specify in the Codec.


I have also heard that DVD Shrink has an issue when you rip the clips
of not creating a proper compliant .VOB file.

Is there a tool(s) out there that anyone uses to rip out sections of a
DVD into a .VOB file, then convert it to a high quality divx/xvid/mpeg2
?

Well I rippped the .VOB's with VideoRedo, and well when I go to
compress it gives and error stating the file is invalid or something.


Blah. Waste of Money. I even ran AnyDVD in system tray to see if it was
a copy protection issue. NOT. When ya play back the VOB the audio is
loud hissing.


The only method I have found thus far to be able and rip a clean VOB is
DVD SHRINK, then I compress with AVI.NET (which does not seem to give
me much flex on options for xvid or divx compression)

Anyone else have suggestions?

'gordian knot' can do the job quite easily. see the guide here http://www.divx-digest.com/articles/...rdianknot.html

note that the guide uses 'dvd2avi'. the latest version of gordian knot uses 'dgindex', which is quite similar. when making the project file, use the '[' and ']' brackets to set the start and end of the video clip. you can follow the rest of the guide as is


winavi and the other commercial programs are pretty much rubbish IMO. videoredo however, it is the best mpeg cutting program ever

Well it did not go

Gordion Knot was a good suggestion, but after playing around I found that "24 Bit, 48000 LPCM audio streams" suck! The only program that seems to handle this (and I think it is because it uses AViSynth) is Avi.Net. Now at first I did not like this program, but after I got to playing around with the options it turns out it is a NICE util, that as far asd mpeg/VOB conversion can replace even AGK. I have had no Sych issues and it outputs DIvX 5-6 or Xvid files that are SAP ready (Stand Alone Player).

I looked around the net for a solution to the 24bit / 48000 / LPCM issue and have yet to find one. Even Avi.NET's preview mode kicks out WHITE NOISE sound until you convert it. GK, and other apps I tried kick out that sound even after the file is compressed....thats so much the suck.

your sound card support 24bit/48k?if don't you will listen as white or pink noise.check the manual of your card first!

Yeah my sound card supports this fine. In fact I can play the VOBs in WINDVD, NERO, etc. Its when your in preview mode on the conversion programs or after you convert that white noise comes out. Except in Avi.Net.

my sound card don't support 24bits and i can play .vobs too.

check to remove my doubts(not yours):
see the audio configurations in nero and win dvd.
maybe they are adjusted to 16bits and your sound card don't support 24bits.

Went home and changed my Soundcards config to playback at 24 bit / 48000


Thanks for the Tip.

However the encoding still ends up with Static in AGK, GK, and only works with AVI.Net (which I am beginning to like alot anyhow).

The version of DGIndex used in (A)GK is an older one that does not support all the LPCM formats. The latest version of DGIndex can demux them.
