    Encoding wide screen movies

excuse my question but i never encode divx before and want to get the Philips standalone that play this format.
when encoding wide screen movies,is needed to encode with blackborders or only the movie inside?
    thanks.

cool, this mean more bitrate than encoding mpeg1 or mpeg2 for the same target size, right?

well, if you were to keep the black borders, they would take up (a little amount) of bits, so a few mb would be wasted on them. if you don't have those black borders, those few mb will go into the rest of the video, so your video will look better overall
