DivX Conversion

Ok, I am a bit of a n00b when it comes to converting DivX seeing as I have never done it before, so bear with me here.

I have a brand new Archos AV700 (40 gig) en-route to me now, to my understanding it doesnt play versions of DivX after ver.5

I wanted to know what would be the best way to convert newer versions of DivX to older versions. This is only in case the firmware upgrades they do dont help.

virtualdub can do it.
