Large MPEG file after conversion

I have just converted an avi file to mpeg format, because my DVD player plays only mpeg files.

After conversion the size of the file is 870MB.

Please help me out of the predicament.

burning it to a regular cd?

explanation

The avi file is 01:25.53 movie (700 MB) file which I converted into MPEG-1 format using Xilisoft avi mpeg converter.

Using Nero, I selected Make Video CD, and added the MPEG-1 file to burn it on my CD-R.

That's where the problem occured, it showed that the 700 MB limit has been exceeded & that problems may occur when burning the project.

I don't know how to proceed further.

I don't think u have any option but to edit out some portions of ur mpeg to bring it down to 700 MB.But usually,I think, a 700MB cd can hold about 84 min of video in vcd format.That means u neeed to cut out a couple of minutes from ur video.

one option is to create a KVCD. make sure your player will support a non-standard VCD (many will), as explained in this link.

The name of the DVD Player is Sansui DVD 1221. With the accompanying booklet , it is written that it plays these file formats: DVD, VCD, SVCD, CD, MP3, CD-R, CD/RW, KODAK CD.

Now you have tell me if it can support KVCD.

For KVCD you will have to download one of the samples available on their website and burn+play to check your players compatibility.

Other option for you is to reencode the Video using TMPGenc (process video and audio seperately) and then use the VCDgear software to compile the VCD.

If you would have wanted to do a DVD, I would have suggested DIKO

but 3 show it supports (sansui). i'd just try it, what's one cd-r? i'd use a cd-rw...even better.
