Audio-video desync in avi

While converting a HD quicktime movie trailer to separate clips & then combining them (using TMPGEnc 3.0 Xpress), I found that the combined avi had audio-video desynchronisation. The audio stream preceeded than video stream. The video codec used was DIVx 6.0 & audio was uncompressed. How do I prevent this desync ?

I would try to
1 demux the audio/video
2 check the length of the audio/video to see if they are the same
3 encode audio/video separately
4 remux the audio/video
