    2-pass questions

    Hi!

Is it possible to rip with DivX 5.1 2-pass method making 1st-pass and later (next night) 2nd-pass?

No. Because 1-pass encoding does not create a .log file, which is required for a 2-pass encoding.

Actually it did. I made 1st-pass with VirtualDub and it made analyse.log.

So it is possible to make 1st-pass and save those files (1st-pass avi and log-file) and then make 2nd-pass? Cool.

Seems like a little missunderstanding about 1st-pass and 1-pass. I always use nandubwith M$MPEG4v2. It has a "job-control" that allows to start the 1st- and 2nd-pass at any time you want. And you don't have to save (or write down) the exact settings.

            sorry but....

How can I make a better quality in 2pass without having to exceed 700MB?

I get artifacts, some, in my video. Sometimes it is REALLY noticable, obviously bitrate shortage.

            Any help is most welcome.

                Hi..

                OK:

I had used fast motion for my dvd rip today and found that the file size was 369MB for 92 mins (a whole movie) with DVD quality, no blocks or artifacts!!!!! 1pass!!!! using dvdx!!!!

How is this possible? What bitrate was used?

OK OK, why the hell are people complaining about fast motion not being good? it is great! for me.

I used this bitrate, like I ALWAYS do, especially after MPEG2 encoding when after capturing:

                      6000 bitrate

                      75 crisp

                      10 k/f

                      use dvdx

The movie was EAST IS EAST, I ripped it using smartripper. look at my guide on how to rip using smartripper, the guide is using a different method but I am experimenting with other encoders.

What did you use to encode? Eg. Flask or Gordian Knot

                          Remember this:

NOT all DVD rips will look good on fast motion or low motion!

                          But anyway:

                          I used smartripper to rip

then DVDx to encode using DIVX 3.11alpha

                          use:

44100Hz 128kbps for audio (not lose quality)

make sure correct4/3 ratio is selected in options menu (I think)

I will make another guide with this 2morrow.

Cool. Can you please make a detailed guide, with everything included for the conversion?

                            Thanks.

                              Sure.

But remember, I do not know what EACH AND EVERY SETTING MEANS!

but will explain why I used it etc...

it takes 3-4 hours for the encode.

I did this and was not much satisfied:

did nandub 2pass, quality is excellent, don't take me wrong, and file size is less then a CD, cool but there were artifacts and some blocks.

I then encoded using low motion with 3 different bitrates, quality was worse than a 2pass!

so then I used DVDx to encode to fast motion and voila!
