Well I used the program that you recommended and i didnt get that quality you should in your previous post. but what im confused about is that i looked all over the net for optimal settings in xvid and i tried but it seems to be kind of poor. i captured the video using composite cable and was made to mpg 2 format. so when i convert into xvid i kind of loose quality and sometimes the video kind of looks kind of poor once and awhile. if you could tell me what options to use to get the best results

The options to use were given a few posts earlier. If the intial quality is poor, the final quality will be also. I used staxrip to convert the sample I showed you. I also did a double pass with xvid. My intial quality was very good, the mpeg2 was 4gb in size, I shrank it down to 350mb.

use a higher bitrate, make sure you're actually doing 2 passes

click the 'target quantizer' button, it'll change to 'target bitrate'. 1200kbps+ is good for dvd res. adjust for your output resolution

by increasing the bitrate will the file size become larger also

What is so hard about staxrip? If the settings given to you don't give the quality you are looking for then you will have to increase the file size. You can only do so much compression and retain decent picture.

Im encoding a 30 minute video from the source video which is im MPG2 Format. The resolution is of the source is 720X480 I want to create a xvid video with about 640X480 or 592x480 resolution with around 250MB File output. You have any suggestions on how to improve the quality of the video, I use GNot to encode my xvid files

One other question I see some encodes that have 24bit and mine is only 12bit why is that and how can I make it 24bit

set motion search to highest possible, as well as VHQ (should be 6 and 4). 2 bframes, enable qpel and gmc
