HELP!! Computer won't play avi, xvid, or any wmv.

For quite some time, my computer will not play any movie files I convert or download via windows media player, winamp, wmp classic, or even my ati media player. VOB files work fine. DvD's also play normally.

    I don't think I'm missing a specific plugin, because it's universaly faulty.

I really hope you guys can help.

Actually, It seems the only files not being played are avi files. This might narrow the solution.

you could try a 'system restore', but saying "for quite some time" makes me think it won't help

      download & install 'ffdshow' http://ffdshow.sourceforge.net/tikiw...etting+ffdshow

              or the K-lite Codec package
likely that'll only worsen the problem
