    XviD Encoding Help Needed

    hi,
i have some queries regarding xvid codec. i recently took my "the ring" region 1 dvd and using virtualdub, i converted it to xvid avi, 704X384 resize, 1400 mb avi with ace 192 2.0 ch audio. i used mpeg-custom matrix (eqm_v3lr first time, and second time eqm_v3hr), both times there were lots of artifacts, so please can u guys recommend whether i should use mpeg matrix, or jawor's 2-cd matrix or something else, please recommed?also, what should i set bvop sensitivity to?

I personally like EQM V3LR, though mpeg is quite good anywyay. if you're getting blocking, increase motion search precision & VHQ to max. max B frames to 2 and VHQ enabled, enable qpel & gmc. if nothing, or already done, up the bitrate.

x264 works much better than xvid here

If you used VDub to do the resize, then you converted to RGB24 and back, which does not help.

If you are encoding for SAP playback, then be carefull of CQM's, espeically Sharktooths.

Some kind of pre-filtering may help.
