    AC3 Encoder

    Hi guys,

I have some XVids I am converting to DVD and I was going to use Besweet to convert the audio to ac3 2 channel. I have read in a few places that besweet is not great at ac3 conversion.

Is there another ac3 encoder I could use or should I use Besweet to convert to MP2?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Cheers

There is basically only one free AC3 encoder; ac3enc from libavcodec (ffmpeg), However, BeSweet last time I checked was using an older version. Most of what you read about BeSweet and AC3 is in regards to not compliant output and that was fixed years ago. Still issues with volume and quality though.

I did find ffmpeg which is kind of the same thing I guess but seemed to work a bit better as when I used BeSweet I couldn't play the file but this seemed better.

What about MP2 is that better than ac3 or not?

Well in terms of mp2 you have twolame/toolame which is much better tuned. Still a well tuned AC3 encoder would be better.

I used the ffmpeg one last night and the results seemed pretty good.

          Thanks for your help.
