Ratios... My DVD burner isn't keepin them.. HELP!!

I burn a dvd. Then I put it in my DVD player (hooked up to my TV) and it is bigger than it should be. The subtitles are cut halfway off the screen and I lose about an inch of what I should be seeing around all the sides. I have tried adjusting the aspect ratio on the DVD player, but it doesn't help.. What am I doing wrong here? The software is MyDvd, I'm burning AVI files.

thread moved to the appropriate forum.

i'd try to help you but i have never used this roxio software for avi conversion

BTW, how does the converted file appear when played back on your PC?

it seems the problem lies with the player then. how does the disc play in another player or PC?

man that's strange... it is still too big on my playstation 2, my dvd player... it only works at the right size on my computer.. otherwise i lose an inch off all sides on the tvs... it's like the program didn't compensate for the ratio... is there any way to fix this? or do i have to actually buy a new dvd player to watch these?

Here's what I can tell you about the clips... They're Mpeg-3 Audio, the video sample size is 124 bit, the compression is DIvX, and they're all around 640x480 resolution

that may be the problem, it's always putting out 4:3

playying the burned dvd in the computer shows widescreen?

                              well

on the computer it shows up fine.. doesn't seem to be wide screen though. it only has this problem when i play it externally, like on my PS2 or XBOX or dvd player that goes through the tv
