Video getting stretched when converting Avi (XviD) > MPEG-2

    Hi all,
I have an avi file (with XviD) and I am trying to convert it to MPEG-2 to burn it to dvd, however it is 640x272 pixels and whenever I try to convert it it gets streched to 4:3 so it is too tall/too narrow. Does anyone know of any software (for Windows/Linux) that can convert this without stretching the image?

I have tried to do this several times with various different peices of software (mencoder and half the software made by Aone among other things).

Thanks for any help at all.

Thanx, I will try AVIDemux on windows (linux is down for the moment). I'm going to use DVDStyler for splitting it and making an iso, is this the best free, cross-platform software for doing so?
