    .mkv to avi (size problem)

ok, i'm new to .mkv files and i've done about an hour or two of research/trial to try and convert my .mkv's to .avi so i can put them on DVD. My problem is this, my .mkv's are 230megs, but when i tried converting to avi with both avi2dvd & river past, they end up as 9.25GB avi's. Normally when i've put television shows onto disc, i can fit upto 3 episodes on a dvd, but in this case i'd get only 1/2 an episode? Any help would be appriciated.

    welcome to the forum

if your goal is to get the mkv onto dvd, why place in avi in the first place? avi2dvd will encode straight to mpeg2/dvd.

just FYI you can extract & mux mkv to avi with mkvtoolnix

there's an avi-->dvd using avi2dvd guide in here somewhere, search the forum. it shouldn't matter whether the source is in mkv or avi, avi2dvd supports both.

sure, though how many will fit depends on length, bitrate/quality etc
