What can me included in an MPEG4 file?

This is my first post to this forum. I have been trying to use AGK or the DIVX Converter to encode my files from VOB's to MPEG4 using either the DIVX or XVID codec & still retain subtitles? I have gotten files with subtitles included in the output file but only once were they in the correct place. In all other instances they were unusable since they were out of place by about 20 seconds.

Is what I'm asking impossible? if not can this be taken further so that more than one audio track is retained & even chapter points? I have never heard of any MPEG4 files that include chapter points but I may be out of touch.

I occasionally asked this sort of question on the DIVX forums at DIVX but they appear to have disappeared.

I downloaded an update from DIVX yesterday which was supposed to include several modules including getting 'converter' version 6.3. The bundle downloaded & installed OK but the 'converter' programme still says version 6.2. Is this correct?

I have tried the new converter despite the fact that it says version 6.2 on everything. When you open it up it says version 6.3.

So I tried dropping a VOB file on it which had 2 audio tracks & English Subtitles. The resulting file can play the second audio track (director's comments). But once again the subtitles are useless. They now display about 40 seconds after when they should. This is even worse than what I had before.

if you're after multiple audio streams, subs, chapters, etc. drop the relatively flakey avi/divx media format altogether and use mp4 or mkv. suggest you then also drop the apps you're using, try something like staxrip or meGUI, guides exist for both apps
