Do I see a difference??

I started encoding using DVD2AVI, VFapi and Vdub. I guess that it was done with 1-pass etc. It did the job rather quickly and without any fuss with different parameters.

Then I read about GNot, and I'm currently giving it a try. There are a lot of parameters here which I just set as Doom9 suggests in his guide.

Now, my question is, do all this extra work result into any difference of the encoded movie? I myself can't see it in the 3 min clip I've been experimenting with? Is that because I've done something wrong?

2-Pass encoding often give noticeably better results than 1-pass. Which tools are used is not very improtant, as long as you chop off the black borders and get the input properly deinterlaced.

But once you get the hang of GKnot, it is very easy to use, and it is faster than using vfapi.

With deinterlaced, do you mean make sure that there aren't any disturbing black lines in the picture?

Also if you encode o 3 min clip you dont see the real quality with Gknot. However if you encode a movie, you'll notice when SBC kicks in.

SBC...I know that I've seen it somewhere... but what does it mean? "single bitrate calculator"???

it's only in nandub.

it stands for "Smart Bitrate Control" This basically adjusts the codecs accordingly to the action of the scenes.

Does that mean that to use SBC I've to use the 3.11 codec?

3.11alpha is the best codec, good high quality and low file size.

Ok, but as I have written in a another post a few minutes ago, the 3.11 is hacked and I get a warning when using it with XP. Should I just ignore it, or did I download the wrong codec?

yeh, ignore it, it will still work fine!
