Ghosts in my encoded files

i've encoded some anime, and used a deinterlacer and a smoother on the avi, yet it still has some ghosts in it, frames overlaping. how do i get rid of them??
is it in the encoding process of the filtering process??

what software and/or filter should i use to get rid of this?

What sort of deinterlacer? Try not to use Blend and too low a thresold value.

im using a bob field deinterlacer

Try using Smart Deinterlacer or running Inverse Telecine (more complicated to perform). Remember not to use too low a thresold value, in the case of using deinterlacer, and also avoid Blend mode, as it guarantees ghosting.

i tried both the smart deinterlacer and the inverse telecine.
they didn't seem to do the trick.

u think my source dvd isn't the greatest??

I don't remember IVTC ever creating ghosting effects! It is just not possible. Are you sure you have done it properly?

p.s. Some DVDs are real bitches to rip and convert anyway. Maybe yours do fall under that category.

well i'll run u thru my basic encode

cladDVD xp - rip the vobs to hdd
dvd2avi - get avi and wav file form vob
tmpg - convert to 24fps, itvc
VFAPI conv. - use this to produce temp avi for virtual dub
VD - load temp avi form vfpi and wav, apply filters, dub

done

am i doin something wrong, or is there better software i could use

i dunno if i still have the ghost effect in the avi
but when i play it i can c in fast moving areas ans sometimes
when the camera moves a sertan way, movements have a trail.
that is interlaced

Hmm. Don't see anything wrong there indeed. Have you checked whether the DVD playback itself suffers from this?
