What capture card do u have?

make sure that the connections are connected properly, like from ur capture card to the line in on ur sound card and make sure that line in is NOT muted in Windows and that volume of line in is full and from the capturing software.

I use a standard firewire to capture video. But the problem is during the compression: if I watch the uncompressed AVI with MediaPlayer the audio is Ok, but when I open with Virtuadub the file AVS (with the DirectShow istruction), I haven't got the audio any more, and so is the compressed file

mmmhh... what do u mean don't use compression? I already tryed to direct copy the audio but without result
It seems to be a problem with AVS but without it VirtuaDub dosn't open the file.
I use UleadVideoStudio (the bundle version) to capture video, I can compress the video with it but there is no de-interlace filter

It really seems to be easyer to convert a film in DVD than a standard DV

Plzzz help me out plzzz help!!!

              Hey,

How r u all of you im new here on this forum and i have already

make the movie from my MiniDV camera AVI to SVCD it was

excellect made but when later 2 months later i want to make

another one but unfortunatley the problem is that it is giving me

erro on the VirtualDub that when i even open the file of AVI in

VirtualDub it gives stupid error again and again when i try to

open again and again, i have tried Lead Codec this didn't help me

out too, and i did follow that AviSynth i installed it, and got the

instructions from the website how to install i did that but i don't

get this that when you say, "that just make a simple text file with

AVS extension and inside the text file put DirectShowSource

("movi.avi"), place movie.avi with the name of your miniDV avi file.

Then you open the AVS file inside virtual dub. see, virtual dub

can't open the avi file itself, so it opens the AVS file and avisynth

passes it the AVI file transparently...its really cool." I dont get it

what do u mean so plzzz can you tell me how to do that because

im new to these AviSynth DLL i have did put in the

windows/system directory it says in the website where i

downloaded from and next i dont know what to do so plzzzz if

you have can email me some pics or post it here or you can post

some pics how u do it because i just dont get it what are you

saying so i will be pleased to you if you do that for in advance

and i will be waiting to get the answer from you thanks.

Virtualdub will not natively support MPEG2 files. You will need frameserve. Checkout doom9.org and the avisynth website for support and documentation.

Alternatively, TMPGEnc can also be used to output to divx/xvid or another format (though I'm not sure about the quality).

As a side note, www.dvdrhelp.com may also have some pertinent information.

Good information. I have been trying for months now to convert/compress files. VurtualDub gave me that "VFW" error and I did what you said to get by it, however now I get another error.

                  Unexpected Character "y"

I used notepad to save the text:
                  DirectShowSource("AA guns 01.avi")

That is exactly what is in the .txt file.
I renamed the file to aaguns.avs from aaguns.txt.

Opened the text file in VirtualDub (avs file) and now I get that error. Do you have any ideas?

                    solution?

But, really I'm interested in a solution to have sound after compressing the aviDV with Vdub. and Avisynth. Beacause I have the same problem, I have an avi (compressed) without sound.
And then I don´t know how to extract the audio with the avidv if I can't open it with Vdub.

My solution now, is open the avidv with studio8, create with this one avi compressed , bad quality, and then extract the audio with Vdub. and pasted it in the quality avi.

                      Hello,
A nice guy named Rany just linked me to this thread. Thank you Rany.
I have some problems in converting my DV's to DivX:

                      1. I also don't have sound. It seemed to me like a problem in AviSynth.
                      2. I wanted to know what is the best options (in the DivX 5.0.5 Pro) to convert DV's to DivX, when the quality is very important (I want to covert a 60 minutes film into a 700Mb file).
                      3. What is the best options to capture a DV (from my Canon MV400i) with Premiere (when only quality is important).

                      Thanks,
                      gilk.

OK, I found (with Rany help) how to hear the sound.
The AVS file should be like that:
                        AviSource("d:\temp\Untitled.avi", true)

and you need to download the FourCC Codec from Main Concept. you can find it here:

just go to the end of the page and download the DV Codec.

Hey, I've found an even easier way. Using either Premier or Ulead, download the appropriate plug-in from www.videotools.net. When you go to make your movie, you can save the .avi to the "video server" plug-in. Then VDub uses Premeir or Ulead as a frame server. You don't have any problems with audio, etc, and you don't have to use avisynth.

                            Hi all!

I capture mini dv via Premiere Pro 7. The quality is ok, no problem with it, but the file size: 30min is 5Gb...

so i decided to convert my movies. I tried dvix, Xvid, but after converting the video it become horizontally striped especially when somebody or something passed the picture or moved...

Could somebody help me? What did i do wrong? i usually covert with 3000kbps
