Im just wondering if there is software that will reencode XVID's with a different aspect ratio. What I would like to do is reencode my xvids to 16:9 ratio.

At the minute I am using convertx2dvd software for converting xvid to vob format. This is a nice piece of software but quality does decline somewhat after conversion. I'm just wondering whats the best piece of software for the conversion in your opinion taking quality into account.

XviD encoded file is already highly compressed.Re-encoding this will decrease quality irrespective of the software you use.

What software would you suggest for re-encoding the apsect ratio?

Few methods of achieving this:

-If they're in an AVI container, use a hex editor to change (crop) the vertical resolution. Probably not the best solution since (AFAIK) it will be limited to directshow players.

-Use a decoder like ffdshow that allows cropping/resizing/adjusting AR.

-Use a player like VLC or mplayer that allow cropping etc

-Re-encode and crop/resize with MeGUI or AutoGK. There will be quality loss, how much depends on bitrate, codec and settings.

Its just so i can redo the aspect ratio for use on dvd players. So far ive tried imtoo to redo the border which it does but when converting the outputted file with convertx the filesize is much bigger than a dvd.
