    iDCT

Hey guys, just wondering if selecting faster/slower iDCT options (such as MMX versus reference) makes a difference in the overall encoding quality? i know the nicky's guide states it "may" but has anyone tested this further?

I have a thunderbird 1.2 and using reference idct it will take about 12 hrs to do a pass with divx 4.11 (high quality options) and about 6 hrs using the MMX idct...

i get between 4 - 9 fps depending on the idct... it also seem as though (using flask) if i put it into "higher" priority it takes the same amount of time (or has little advantage), but ties up the cpu lagging it.

    anybody else affected like this?

    thanx

    Hi

I have tested the quality of the reference iDCT and MMX iDCT, by transcodeing to uncompressed output, and I absolutly cannot tell any difference at all.
